Trudeau Popularity - or not. Nanos research

Looks like the budget didn’t do much help to the LPC. CPC seems to have hit their highest point now.

Any takers on if JT steps down after he sees the budget pass?

I think he will.

And I am not 100% on the budget passing. The NDP could be looking for more to keep the supply in confidence going at this point, as they are sharks in the water as much as the CPC are.

Possible. But if he says he’s staying on then maybe that could be why? Or maybe no one is keen on taking him on? Do people pick up when he calls? Does he have a network that would be valuable to an organisation? Does he have a particular skill set he can bring?

I don’t think there will be anything graceful about his exit now. My guess though is that when he does, I am sure a few orgs will come knocking.

Can you expand on that ?

I think his graceful exit is overdue. He could have maybe 6 months ago or even announce something after the last election when he didn’t win his majority. Set a timeline, set up succession.

He’s now leaving with the lowest approval ratings he ever had with tired government reaching that 10 year mark. People are angry with him etc etc.

If he steps down it will be very much known why. I suppose he could acknowledge it on his way out. But he isn’t leaving on a high note.

Only an organization with it's head up it's ass would want to bring this guy on.

I'm guessing the sensible outside players and reasonable MPs in his party have been gritting their teeth for the last several years with the latter whipped into party support. Probably most are finally acknowledging the emperor has no clothes but only because the clock is running out.

Why does that commentator feel qualified to opine on something it’s highly unlikely he’d be in a position to actually have reliable knowledge of? I doubt most NGOs are super public in quietly soliciting post-retirement participation from major political leaders. That sounds more partisan-hopeful than fact based.

All he has to do is say he'll call an election before some MPs can qualify for pension while hinting he'd like some sort of exit.

our local theatre is looking for a part-time makeup specialist or perhaps he might find a place in wardrobe

It's telling that neither Schwab or Soros has found a niche for him yet. Perhaps he was nothing more than a useful idiot to them.

His influence, or what is left, in being PM has severely waned on the world stage. With the EU considering him a dictator and other countries claiming DILIGAF, he's not even marketable to give talks. Not that he's qualified enough to even speak on anything tangible.

Perhaps he can produce a travelogue, where he wears the countries national dress while sampling their national dishes, finishing up with singing their national anthem and dancing their national folk dance.

I'm sure, as long as he has his foundation, the Clintons can find a use for him.

Personally, after his defeat, I never want to hear or see him, or his name again.

I think he was hoping for a spot with the UN for himself and close friends. But his failure to follow through with his promise "were back" told a further story of his failure to amount to much. Then the dictatorship way he handled covid response and the protests really made him enemies in Europe.
It will be interesting when he applies to oil and gas company or mining company. BC's former Premier John Horgan works for Teck Coal. After he was strongly against them.

I think he’s too arrogant to. At this point it’s a toss up whether the party writ large would want him to give some a chance, or to stay on and own a defeat that it’s unlikely anyone can avert.
NOBODY can save the LPC from the upcoming reckoning I think (and hope) they'll experience come election time...they have very deliberately made their bed, and I'm glad they'll get a chance to enjoy it.

Believe it or not, I'm not actually anti-LPC. I'm anti LPC with their current party leadership & a good chunk of their MP's. I tend to lean Conservative (was a big Harper fan) but traditionally I haven't been so anti-LPC.

Plenty of time from here to eternity (Election 2025) for things to change. Politics is a fickle creature in that regard.

Do I think the LPC will have a glorious rebound and we see another PMJT led majority? Not a chance in hell. I don't, however, subscribe to the belief its all but a formality that the CPC will get a majority after the writ drops.

PP et al have the political equivalent of a full 20 minute period to maintain a 3 goal lead; plenty of hocky can happen. Just ask my beloved Leafs...

Nor am I. I don't sunscribe to party politics, normally, as I tend to focus on issues instead.

That said, I pretty much find no redeeming qualities in the LPC platform after 10ish years, and I find so few of their party faithful capable of independent thought that my vote is trending elsewhere.

Now who wants to take bets he will be like his father, leave for a short amount of time and be back?

All it could take is a 4 year Conservative majority which requires some serious cuts to sort things out, which would piss off the entitled and result in a return for JT.

Very well said, and totally agreed. I've always thought that either side can have good ideas, and either side can have bad ideas - and voted based on which party had the 'better' ideas.

I genuinely do keep looking for some sort of redemption in the current LPC's policies or in their current side of the house in the HoC...and just can't find any.

(That's not to say there aren't any good Liberal MP's, I am sure there are...but the entire LPC is in desperate need of an overhaul, and that will have to include who's faces are seen in Parliament)
