FWIW, I attended a winter warfare course run by the Norwegian Army at the Infantry School in Elverum, wearing all their kit etc, and thus participated in their supply system.

I thought it was exceptionally efficient and well run.

No one 'does laundry' as we know it. At the end of the week you simply pack all your dirty kit into a bag, hand it in at stores, and they issue you brand new, freshly laundered, kit of the same size: 2 pairs each.

This included NOS items such as long johns as I recall, but not 'socks and skiddies' which I just washed in the sink.
