Tabling bill to extend citizenship rights to some children born abroad

When my son was born overseas, we had to get him a citizenship card, as his Dutch birth certificate is not recognized for most government applications (passports, sin, etc.).

I believe that this would impact anyone who was not born in Canada, and had children abroad, regardless of which department they worked for (as I don't believe we issue Canadian birth certificates overseas anymore, probably because we don't have Canadian hospitals abroad anymore).

The change helps close the cracks some unfortunate individuals fell through, while not reopening the doors to ghost Canadians (ala Lebanese problem from the early 2000s).

International citizenship law can be complex. Legislation / Regulation / Policy need to be well developed and consider the edge cases.
